About Us

The Mental Health Association for Greater Baton Rouge (MHA) has been in operation since 1954 when it began as an organization promoting advocacy and education on mental illness and related issues. MHA has grown to include programs for adults with severe and persistent mental illness and individuals suffering from substance addictions in the Greater Baton Rouge area and statewide. The Mission of the Mental Health Association for Greater Baton Rouge is to provide services for persons with or at risk for mental health and substance abuse issues.

MHA specifically serves individuals who have been treated for any mental or emotional disorder and/or substance abuse, with a special focus on the seriously and chronically mentally ill adult population. All programs operated by MHA strive to develop independence, self sufficiency and consumer empowerment of our clients. With the support of staff and resources offered by our programs, individuals can achieve the success needed to live independently within the community.
